Here's a list of rules that your tire warehouse should always make sure to follow to ensure proper safety when using Tier-Rack's tire racks.

Always maintain a clean warehouse

This means floors, aisles, shelves, whatever.  Take the time to ensure that your warehouse walkways and storage areas are free from clutter that can cause accidents, and don't have potential spill areas for slip and falls

Ensure that cables are covered.  Don't assume that people will always see cables stretched across the floor or walkways

Pace yourselves - running in a warehouse or working yourselves to the point of exhaustion are both false hustle mistakes.  There's no reason to run or work tired.  They can wait on their tire for the 2 minutes it takes to walk, and your manager needs to schedule you for breaks.

Make sure that the warehouse is always well ventilated, keeping airflow during the summer and heat in the winter can mean the difference between a safe worker and a costly sickness or injury.

These are just a few examples of how a little pre-planning can help solve the major problems of warehouse work.  Ensuring warehouse safety means that everyone can work effectively and efficiently.  This will make your business more profitable and a better place to work.

Since 1955, Tier-Rack Corp has used their Tier-Rack storage system to store tires, boxes, fabric, pipe,  elecronics, bicycles, furniture, food, beverages, and almost any product that can be kept in a warehouse.  Any company that uses pallets can use this product, which stacks frames on top of your existing wood pallets to create  vertical space. These will allow a company to stack 3 to 5 loads of crushable of fragile products, as well as  awkward, non-stackable product.

When the frames aren't being utilized, they take up a small amount of space, folding down to conserve your  precious warehouse space.

Overstacking a rack is dangerous. whether it's for tires, general goods, giant coils, grains, or whatever, there's a weight limit that your rack was built to specifications for.  This weight limit, however, isn't always easy for warehouse managers to convey to their employees, regardless of how important it is to warehouse safety.  There may be a missing link in the chain of information, where the manager creates a sign which is covered by something else, or the lessons get lost in the shuffle of employee turnover.  However, this important lesson needs to be imparted at every level, as no company can afford for their inventory to crash to the floor.

Overstacking isn't the only problem though.  Racks can be weakened by collisions with forklifts, by improper stacking, by being in improper configurations or environments, or they may arrive in an unsatisfactory condition.  This last one, however, is one that Tier-Rack Corp can fix.  Every rack manufactured by Tier-Rack Corporation meets their highest safety and manufacturing specs, and are manufactured here, in the United States, of the finest metals and techniques at their manufacturing factories.

Tier-Rack Corporation has been a leader in rack solutions and flexible warehouse racking systems for almost sixty years. The original Tier-Rack® pallet stacking frame converts regular warehouse pallets into sturdy storage racks in seconds without screws or bolts. And the Load-Nester® all-steel storage rack features light and heavy duty models of solid all-welded, knock-down, or nestable designs for all your material handling needs. Our portable stacking racks and rack systems are designed to handle and store even the most fragile, odd-shaped, and awkward merchandise. They can be designed to transport two loads at a time. Our stack racks reduce handling time, stack four to six high, and they are capable of supporting thousands of pounds per unit load. The Tire Industry Association (TIA) has issued a new environmental best management practice to manage the flow of tires removed from service by tire generators. The guidelines were created by TIA’s Environmental Advisory Council (EAC).

LacingTiresAlmost all states have enacted rules, regulations and licensing requirements for properly managing the flow of tires removed from service by tire industry generators (tire dealers, retailers, car dealers, service stations, etc.). Responsible management of this valuable raw material is essential to ensure that tires taken out of service are properly reused, recycled or disposed. TIA says the new best management practice provides guidelines for tire generators to follow when tires are removed from vehicles or received from consumers.

TIA Executive Vice President Roy Littlefield says, “The generator plays a crucial role to ensure that scrap tires are not improperly disposed in neighborhoods, waterways or abandoned piles. We encourage TIA members and everyone in the industry to follow this best practice. By doing so, scrap tires can be utilized in beneficial ways and lessen our industry’s impact on the environment.”

This document, along with five additional best management practices, is available for download free of charge on TIA’s website www.tireindustry.org. Each of the best practices describes procedures that should be followed for handling, transporting, recycling and/or disposing of items such as used oil, fluids, degreasers, batteries and tires.

Any company that stores and carries tires knows how difficult this task can be.  Finding ways to keep the tires in the proper shape and alignment while maximizing your warehouse's full space is a growing concern, as business costs rise and profits margins become slimmer.  These concerns lead many companies to try risky stacking methods or purchase outrageously priced tire racks, or even worse, purchase cheaply-made racks from overseas concerns, that do not undergo rigorous testing and can be made of inferior grade metals.

GreentrucktirescopyTier-Rack Corporation of St. Louis sells both custom-built and mass-produced tire racks, giving them an unmatched ability to find the right storage solution for your company.  Tier-Rack can also provide tire racks for display, tire racks for storage and tire racks for transportation.  These are truly the best options for your business, and can be your warehouse manager's best friend.

Most people look at a tire and see a solid rubber circle, perfectly created from bonding rubber to steel treads, that helps convey your vehicle from one place to another, protecting the car from being torn apart by the asphalt it travels on. They are a barrier between successful travel and disaster, and make the highways the safe, comfortable method of travel that they are today. However, tires are not indestructable.

There are many factors that go into the life of a tire. Wear patterns, depending on the driver, can be a factor. Weather that the vehicle is driven in are a factor. External factors, such as debris (nails, glass, other road debris) can score or puncture a tire at any time, whether they are brand new off the showroom or threadbare.

There is one factor that comes before all of these, however, and that is storage. How a tire is stored has a massive effect on the life and durability of a tire. The temperature for storage must be termerate, as too hot or too cold can expand and contract the rubber causing it to weaken and crack. Also, how the tire is held in the storage rack is important. Ahile there needs to be holes in the decking to allow water through in case of fire, the holes must be properly spaced in order to keep the tires from developing flat spots and patterning, both of which can lead to blowouts and dangerous driving situations. Tier-Rack has the solution for this, with their custom-made tire racks!

Tires can be a difficult thing to manage.  They're thought of as sturdy, rugged products, that are used to hold up your vehicle and keep you moving along.  In reality, they're fairly fragile, and if not taken care of properly, can warp easily, and a warped tire creates a dangerous situation where a blowout can occur.  This is a concern for tire manufacturers, tire resellers, and repair shops, or anyone who deals in them.  It also can hurt companies that store tires for their own vehicles, such as bus companies, construction crews, and companies that can't afford down-time with flats and blowouts.

Finding the right balance of storage and accessablity for tires is a major concern.  This creates a tipping point for companies, where the convenience of storing the tires in a way that the tires can be quickly pulled from the shelves may outweigh the need for the tires to be stored in a way that they can't warp or deform.

Tier-Rack Corp has the answer.  TThe Tier-Rack Stacking Rack, invented by Tier-Rack in 1955, is the industry leader in creating vertical, portable space in your warehouse.  The original Tier-Rackョ pallet stacking frame converts regular warehouse pallets into sturdy storage racks in seconds without screws or bolts. And the Load-Nesterョ all-steel storage rack features light and heavy duty models of solid all-welded, knock-down, or nestable designs for all your material handling needs.

All styles of racking are engineered to meet and/or exceed the "2-to-1" safety factor established by the Rack Manufacturers Institute (RMI) for portable rack design specifications.

With Tire Racks, this is very important.  Tires must be stored so that there is not an excessive amount of pressure on the tire, which can cause warping and soft spots, damaging the live expectancy of the tire.  These can lead to blowouts and dangerous conditions, and angry customers as well!

Many businesses need to store tires.  What some of them don't understand is HOW.  Tires, as a soft, malleable object, need to be stored in a way that they won't warp and deform, creating wobbly, dangerous tires that can cause blowouts and accidents.  Wobbly tires can mess up the alignment on a vehicle, and on an 18-wheeler, this is a huge problem costing thousands of dollars to fix.

Tire Rack, Tire RacksSome companies have found themselves with unusable stock, simply because they have not stored their tires properly on a professional, custom built tire rack.  These tire racks are easily the safest way to safely store your tires, as they hold the tires on perforated decking that helps distribute the weight of the tire throughout, keeping it from warping.

Our center post Tier-Rack® tire stacking frame is a popular alternative for those who appreciate the ease of loading and unloading tires when there are no obstructions on the corners of the stack racks. These tire racks are also the least expensive storage solution for tires  available. The frames easily attach to your existing warehouse pallets and will hold loads of 2,000 pounds per pallet when the racks are stacked five high.

Tier-Rack Corp of St. Louis, MO has been providing custom designed and manufactured tire racks since 1955.  Tier-Rack has created hundreds of customized racks for every shape and size of tire, using wire mesh and perforated decking to support the tires while keeping them from warping during long periods of non-use.  Let us show you how our years of manufacturing experience can provide you with quality earthmoving machine tire racks at a very affordable price. We buy steel tubing directly from the tube mills in truckload quantities. Then our talented and efficient teams in our low overhead production facilities transform the steel tubing into high quality portable racks that have been designed to meet your needs. FreRollRackStackWe here at Tier-Rack Corp believe in a few things.  American-made products, quality materials, and the value of giving customers what they pay for come to mind.  But the most important thing we believe in is safety.  Tier-Rack has some rules that we like to send to customers to follow, in order to create a safer, more harmonious work environment.  Finding the balance between safety and productivity is difficult, and we feel that these rules will help your company properly use storage racks for any product, including tire racks, in a safe and secure manner.

*Do not carry more than one rack at a time. The racks are manufactured for static loads, not lateral loads.

*Always read the label on the rack for it’s weight capacity and stack height.

*Do not overload racks. Tier-Rack stack racks are engineered to withstand twice the capacity rate just in case this happens.

*Do not use racks with damaged posts or bases. This (as with any type of racking) will greatly reduce the safety of the racking. We suggest if posts or bases are damaged, to call us and we will make replacements for your racks. Then please recycle the damaged material as soon as possible, so no one will grab and use them.

*Do not stack any higher than is stated on the label. Each rack is engineered specifically for each customers maximum weight capacity. If they are stacked higher than they were engineered for, it could cause safety problems for employees.

*Tier-Rack engineers each rack to store product(s) to a given specification that is printed on the label. These calculations assume the weight on the rack is evenly distributed across the rack. Basically, don’t store anything heavy on one side and lightweight on the other. I know it is common sense, but it is good to share this information with the fork truck drivers and employees that may load the racks with product.

*Do not fabricate (drill holes, grind, cut) the posts or bases of the racks without contacting Tier-Rack first. This can cause safety concerns down the road. We can have our engineers on staff calculate if these practices will affect the integrity of the steel and it’s performance short term and long term.

*If you lose a label for the rack, just give us a call and we can send you replacement labels for you. Our labels are heavy duty and last for years, but sometimes they are damaged and knocked off. This is important because it tells your workers the specifications for the rack. If the label is missing it should be replaced immediately.

*Please call Tier-Rack if you are going to ever use the racks for shipment in your trucks or trailers. We can determine if they can safely be stacked, or they may not be stacked while shipping.

We feel that following these rules will help keep your employees safe and soound in their interactions with our racks and will give your company a safer work environment.  Feel free to print this list for your workplace to let your employees know the guidelines for rack safety, so that they can be as safe as possible and keep your company moving forward into the future.  Visit www.tier-rack.com today for more information.

Creating space is a constant struggle for most businesses.  Finding the balance between being able to properly store your product and having it available is essential, especially with sensitive parts like tires.  These give rise to new problems - how can I store tires in a small area without damaging them?  How can I find space for these large cases when they are not filled with tires?  This is where a folding tire rack from Tier-Rack Corp becomes essential for your storage needs.

foldingrack1The Tier-Rack folding tire rack folds down to become an easily-stored piece of equipment, one that gives an immediate relief to the space woes that a warehouse encounters during operations, and in changes of seasons and inventory.  The folding tire rack is stackable when engaged, and folds down to conserve space.

While every vehicle needs to be tuned properly, a motorcycle is an even more specialized piece of machinery.  An elegant machine, the motorcycle is the most exposed form of transportation, and requires perfect balance to operate.  While running on a lopsided tire isn't advisable for any vehicle, from a car to a wheelbarrow, in a motorcycle it's a disaster waiting to happen.  The balance required to operate a motorcycle at high speeds is nearly impossible on a lopsided or warped tire.

newretailtirerackTier-Rack Corporoation has a solution.  Motorcycle shops that carry tires need to have an effective way to store them, and a motorcycle tire rack is the way to do it.  Giving shops a safe way to store tires is essential to happy, safe cyclists on the road.  Motorcycle Tire Racks give every shop the ability to store tires off the ground, in easily accessable racks, to keep the tires from becoming warped and unbalanced, or developing flat spots.  Their wire grating evenly distributes the weight, giving the tires a chance to rest easily and evenly.

Tires can be a difficult storage issue.  As a product, they are malleable and soft, yet need to be perfectly round and flawless for customers to avoid blowouts.  An improperly stored tire is a ticking time bomb that can lead to blowouts, accidents, and deaths.  Finding the medium between storing tires safely and cost efficiency can be hard to discover.

rack2That's where Tier-Rack Corporation can help.  Tires can be stored on racks, but is there another way to store tires effectively in a rack besides straight up and down or stacked?  The Tier-Rack Tire Rack Basket answers this question.  Wire baskets across the boards of the racks hold tires in place safly, while the wires are spaced to create a safe landing area that supports and cradles the tires, keeping them from developing "dead spots" and warping.  This ensures that whether tires are being stored for customer use or as part of fleet maintenance, that all tires will be stored safely.

Tires are an interesting product for storage.  On one hand, they will last during a lengthy storage if kept in optimal temperatures.  On the other hand, they can develop "flat spots" if time and care aren't taken to ensure that the tires are properly stored.  There is a bit of a debate as to whether tires should be stores vertically or horizontally.  Tires can be stacked side-by-side or aligned vertically, but will develop these flat spots either way unless they are stored on proper decking.

Tire Rack, Tire RacksVertical stacking is better for the life of the tires, as horizontal stacking wears on the sidewalls of the tires and causes them to wear excessively.  Vertical storage is easier on the tires, but can create a flat spot in the tire if left on a flat surface for too long.  Tier-Rack tire racks are designed to alleviate this issue.  Tier-Rack offers wire mesh decking and perforated decking, both of which leave holes that allow the tire to rest in a way that won't cause a flat spot on your tire, and the wire and holes are spaced out to avoid leaving marks on the tires.

If the tires are to be used quickly, horizontal tire stacking is perfectly acceptable, but can cause the "beads" to set too close together, making the tires difficult to mount and inflate.  Other tips for tire storage include storing them in a cool, dry place.  Your hot storeroom doesn't make a great place to store a malleable rubber product.  Try to keep them away from motors, generators, and furnaces, as these produce ozone that can age your tires.  Stack "white rubber" tires together to avoid staining.  And store the tires in a way that they won't collect moisture.  Unless you're into mildew.

Wire decking, or racks, serve a very important purpose in the safety of your storage space.  Racks, and all storage, need to work with your existing fire prevention systems in order to be safe.  What a perforated deck will do for your storage facilities is allow water to sluice through the rack in the event of a fire, allowing flames to be extinguished beneath the racks.  This essential safety feature makes the racks an active participant, not a hindrance, to the safety of your facility.  This also helps your tire rack to pass important fire safety codes and keep you operating.  The ratio of holes to solid deck gives good support to the tires and will not leave marks on the tires in the portable rack.

Tire Rack, Tire RacksAnother style of stacking rack uses wire mesh decking. This decking is less expensive than perforated metal decking and has larger openings in the deck. This is a good option if your tires are in and out of your warehouse rack frequently and the wire deck doesn't have time to leave marks on your product. Naturally, the least expensive portable stack rack for tires has no decking at all. The inner and outer rack beams are located so they support the tires. This works best if you do not have people standing on the rack as they load or unload the tires, since the rack beams do not provide as secure a work surface as a deck does.

Storing truck tires can be a hassle, as they are generally sized differently than the more commonly available passenger tire racks. Tier-Rack Corporation has been the leading manufacturer of Truck Tire Racks since 1955, the year they invented the stackable frames for tire storage. They are the original source for truck tire storage racks, and have made it possible for thousands of customers to eliminate their material storage handling issues.

Truck Tire RackTier-Rack has many different varieties of truck tire racks to choose from, giving customers choices about how they store their tires. However, unlike many Truck Tire Rack distributors, Tier-Rack Corporation actually manufactures their own products. Tier-Rack also has engineers on staff to help design the tire rack that you need for your material storage use. Many customers like to use wire mesh decks, for example, as their fire codes require water from overhead sprinklers to pass through grating to the floor below. The ratio of holes to solid deck that our team designed gives solid support to the tires while leaving no marks on the tire. The highly trained, on-staff engineering team creates custom racks that are then built on-site at Tier-Rack's manufacturing centers.

Tire Racks can help your business in a variety of ways. Whether you are a wholesaler of tires, or a dealer directly to the consumer, or a distributor to large companies, an effective rack is essential to your workflow. Unfortunately, a tire rack is not a one size fits all proposition. This creates a conundrum for organizations that deal in many different sizes of tires, from consumer class passenger tires, to high performance sport tires, to trailer and industrial machine tires. Custom racks are sometimes necessary to keep your inventory organized and accessable.

RacingTiresThe essential furniture for a manufacturer of seller of tires can be acquired through a variety of means. There are distributors and wholesalers across the world that can deliver a quality product, or a low price, or excellent customer service. There's one company, however, that excels in all three phases of this operation. Tier-Rack, of St. Louis, MO, is the largest manufacturer of stack racks in the United States, and they're not a dealer, or someone else's distributor. They are the first person you talk to when ordering, and they are the people you call for customer service. They're the low-cost, high service alternative to re-sellers and distributors, who disappear when a problem arises. Tier-Rack also creates custom designs, one of the advantages of being both sales and manufacturing. They sub nothing out to fabricators or third party manufacturers, creating every rack themselves. When customers need assistance with anything from engineering to local inspectors, Tier-Rack is there to help, and make sure that there is no interruption in your business. All products from Tier-Rack are also proudly manufactured in the the United States, in our facilities, ensuring the highest quality and care goes into every rack.

Tier-Rack Corporation has been a leader in rack solutions and flexible warehouse racking systems for fifty years. All styles of racking are engineered to meet and/or exceed the "2-to-1" safety factor established by the Rack Manufacturers Institute (RMI) for portable rack design specifications.
